Candied Baked Apples

Ingredients

6 baking apples
3 figs, chopped
3 dates, chopped
2 tablespoons chopped, candied ginger
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Core the apples and peel the top half. Combine figs, dates, and ginger and stuff apples. Combine granulated sugar with 1 cup water and boil for 5 minutes. Place apples in shallow baking pan and pour sugar syrup over them. Bake for 45 minutes, basting frequently with the syrup. Combine butter and brown sugar and cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in nuts. Top apples with this mixture and broil under low heat for 5 minutes.
