Basil and Tomato Salad

2 tablespoons chopped (fresh) basil
6 ripe tomatoes, quartered
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
mixed lettuce greens


Marinate tomatoes in mixture of 1 tablespoon basil, the oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper for 4 hours. Stir tomatoes once or twice and baste with marinade. Combine greens with remaining 1 tablespoon basil and arrange in salad bowl. Arrange tomato quarters on greens and pour marinade over them. Before serving, toss well.
