Ingredients

1 (8-ounce) bar German sweet chocolate
3/4 cup margarine, softened, divided
6 eggs, divided
2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour, divided
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup chopped nuts
6 ounces cream cheese, softened

Directions:

Melt chocolate and 6 tablespoons margarine over low heat. Cool slightly. In bowl, beat 4 eggs until light colored; add 1 1/2 cups sugar and beat well. Add 1 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Blend in chocolate mixture, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, almond extract, and nuts.

In another bowl, combine cream cheese and remaining 4 tablespoons softened margarine; cream until smooth. Gradually add remaining 1/2 cup sugar; blend in 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons flour, and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Lightly butter a 12-inch Dutch oven. Spread 1/2 of chocolate mixture in bottom. Spoon white batter over evenly. Spoon remainder of chocolate batter on top. Zigzag knife through batter to give marbleized effect. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes (6–8 coals on bottom, 12–16 coals on top).

Fun Fact: Throughout the Colorado State Capitol in Denver is the rare and priceless Colorado Rose Onyx, commonly called Beulah Red Marble. Cutting, polishing, and installing the marble in the Capitol took six years, from 1894 to 1900. It is said the only known supply (near Beulah, Colorado) was completely used up in the capitol, but some sources claim enough of the marble was made available for the old McClelland Library and the Pueblo County Courthouse to have fireplace trims of it.
