* A fluted mushroom can add a quick, last minute garnish to a dinner plate. Clean mushrooms by brushing or rinsing off surface dirt. Handle gently to prevent bruising or discoloring. For a hot garnish, brush lightly with melted butter and broil several minutes. Place on a plate with a sprig of watercress or parsley. Use as a garnish for Fluted Mushroom
You will need a small sharp knife.
Select a very fresh round, plump mushroom with even color. Clean and trim as needed. Using tip of knife, make shallow, narrow V-shaped cuts, about 1/4 inch apart, from the center of the mushroom down to the outer edge. By turning the knife at an angle, you will create a series of curved cuts around the mushroom(A). Remove narrow strips of skin between cuts. Brush raw mushrooms lightly with lemon juice if desired to prevent darkening.
