Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

2/3 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 3/4 cups flour, stirred and measured
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons milk
2 tablespoons butter softened
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add egg beat until mixture is light and fluffy. Add vanilla and almond mix in thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients together with milk mix until blended. Chill 1 hour for ease in handling. Roll out dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Arrange on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 6 to 8 minutes or until done. Cool if desired, frost with butter frosting: blend together butter and sifted confectioners' sugar stir in cream and vanilla until smooth. Makes 2 dozen cookies. Recipe may be doubled.
