1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons butter soft or margarine

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine sugar, butter, salt and milk in mixing bowl cool to lukewarm. Stir in egg and yeast. Gradually add 2 cups flour beat until smooth. Mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle. Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth and satiny, 5 to 8 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning dough to grease a ll sides. Cover let rise in warm place (85° to 90°) until doubled in volume, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Punch down dough turn out on floured surface. Roll out dough to a 15 by 12 inch rectangle. Spread with soft butter or margarine. Sprinkle with Cinnamon-Nut Mixture (below) roll as for jelly roll, starting with the long side.

Place rolled dough on greased baking sheet. Seal ends to form a ring. With scissors, make cuts 1-inch apart to within 1/2 inch of inside of ring. Turn each slice on its side, cut side up. Cover let rise in warm place until doubled, 45 to 60 minutes.

Bake ring at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown. If desired, spread while warm with Vanilla Glaze (below).

Cinnamon-Nut Mixture: Combine 1 cup chopped nuts, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.

Vanilla Glaze: Combine 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon soft butter or margarine and 2 tablespoons milk blend until smooth.

(Note: For the Vanilla Glaze, the words "each" and "vanilla" are written in by hand on the calendar. I believe the recipe is suppose to read "1 tablespoon each soft butter or margarine and vanilla".)
