Preheat oven to 300°. In very large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar on medium speed till light and fluffy. Gradually add dry ingredients until well blended. With lightly floured hands, shape dough into 1-inch balls. Press lightly with floured fork. Top each cookie with a cherry half. Bake 20–22 minutes; do not let cookies brown.
