Dawn’s Penne Siciliano

Ingredients

1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/4 green pepper, diced
1/2 onion, diced
1 teaspoons garlic, minced
garlic salt and pepper to taste
1 (32-ounce) jar pasta sauce
1 cups water
1 (7-ounce) can mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 (8-ounce) package penne rigate pasta, uncooked
Garnish: grated Parmesan cheese or shredded Italian-blend cheese

Directions:

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook beef, green pepper and onion. Stir in garlic when beef is almost done. Continue cooking until beef is well browned; drain. Add seasonings, pasta sauce, water and mushrooms; stir to blend. Mix in uncooked pasta. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender, about 10 minutes. Top with cheese.

Tip: Watch for old-fashioned clear glass canisters at tag sales and flea markets...perfect countertop storage for all kinds of pasta.
