Sweet-Sour Green Beans

Ingredients

3 pounds green beans
3 onions, thinly sliced and separated into rings
1 1/3 cups vinegar
1 2/3 cups sugar
2/3 cup water
3 tablespoons salad oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions:

Cut off tips of beans; leave whole. Cook in boiling salted water until tender; drain. Combine beans and onion rings in large bowl. Stir together remaining ingredients; pour over bean mixture. Refrigerate at least 24 hours, stirring occasionally. Makes about 3 1/2 quarts.

Note: If fresh beans are not available, use 3 (1-pound) cans whole green beans.
