Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon evaporated milk, undiluted
1/2 cup water
1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, diced
1 (5-ounce) package dried beef, rinsed and diced
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
8 - 10 drops of Tabasco
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 large or 2 small uncut loaves round crusty bread

Directions:

Sauté onion in butter over medium heat. Stir in cornstarch and mix thoroughly. Gradually add milk and water. Cook mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture just comes to a boil and thickens. Stir in cream cheese, dried beef, green pepper, Tabasco, and mustard. Continue to cook and stir until the cheese is melted. Cut the top off the crusty bread and pull the center of the bread out to form a bread bowl. Tear the bread top and center pieces up to use as dippers. Just before serving, spoon the hot beef mixture into the hollowed bread and serve.
