If You Capture It... Shouldn't That Count for Something?
Last week, we told you about some of the fun new social features we've been adding to Cook'n. You can now Like recipes, leave comments, reply to other cooks, and even get notified when someone comments on your recipe.
But one Cook'n user noticed something we hadn't thought of.
Dr. Grandma Jeannie left this comment:
"Great improvement! I would like you to add just one more feature to this. If someone copies a recipe, but doesn't bother to check the 'Like' box, the computer should count the download as a 'Like.' Just last night, I saw someone's recipe that no one 'Liked'. But the 'Captured Just Now' stream showed that it was being copied frequently. I didn't think that was fair. Thanks."
When she said "copies," she meant Captures, and we knew exactly what she was talking about.
Imagine sharing a recipe and seeing:
👍 0 Likes
Ouch! Nobody likes my recipe! 😢
Meanwhile, behind the scenes...
Capture. Capture. Capture. Capture. Capture.
Apparently everybody wants the recipe. They just didn't tap the 👍!
Dr. Grandma Jeannie makes a great point. Capturing a recipe is probably one of the biggest compliments you can give it. You're not just saying, "That looks good." You're saying, "That looks good enough that I want it in MY recipe collection!"
We Loved the Idea!
Dr. Grandma Jeannie suggested counting a Capture as a Like. We loved the thinking behind her idea, but it got us thinking...
Why not show Captures separately?
After all, a View is a View. A Like is a Like. A Comment is a Comment. And a Capture is something else entirely!
So we're planning to start counting the number of times each recipe is Captured and displaying that number right alongside the other activity.
For example, someday you might post a recipe and see:
👀 23 Views 👍 4 Likes 💬 2 Comments 📥 8 Captures
Now THAT tells a much better story!
Maybe only four people remembered to tap Like, but eight people liked your recipe enough to add it to their own Cook'n recipe collection!
And there's another reason I wanted to share this with you.
We really do read your comments!
Some of the best Cook'n improvements come from people like Dr. Grandma Jeannie who use Cook'n every day, notice something that could be better, and take a minute to tell us about it.
Sometimes we can make the change. Sometimes there's a technical reason we can't. And sometimes someone suggests something that makes us say:
"Why didn't WE think of that?" 😂
This was one of those times.
So keep the ideas coming, and keep your eyes peeled for the new Capture count in Cook'n!
