Layer 1/2 cup crackers, beans, corn, water chestnuts, and onion in a greased 9x13-inch pan. Combine soup, sour cream, cheese, and butter in a small bowl and pour over mixture in pan. Top with remaining 1 1/2 cups crackers and chopped almonds, if desired. Bake in oven at 350° for 30–35 minutes.
