Glazed Sponge Cake

1 cup butter or margarine softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla, lemon, or almond extract
2 cups all-purpose flour, unsifted
1/2 (21-ounce) can pie filling (cherry, blueberry, apple, etc.)


Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add eggs a little at a time (3 pourings). Add extract. Blend in flour. Spread batter in well-greased 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 x 1-inch pan. Score lightly with knife in 24 squares. Drop a teaspoonful of pie filling in center of each square. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
