Mussels In Lemon Marinara

1 (24-ounce) jar tomato marinara sauce
1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest (1 lemon)
2 lemons, juiced
1/2 cup white wine
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
4 pounds fresh, cleaned live mussels
pasta or crunchy bread, for serving


Heat the sauce, lemon zest, lemon juice, wine, and oil in a large, covered, deep skillet over medium-high heat until boiling. Add the mussels, stir to distribute, cover, and simmer until the mussels are open and plump, about 5 minutes. Discard any unopened mussels. Serve with pasta or crusty bread.
