Cottage Cheese Biscuits

1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter real
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening solid
1 egg large, lightly beaten
2/3 cup cottage cheese cream style small or large curd
Melted real butter


Heat oven to 425° F. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar together into medium bowl. With pastry blender cut in 2 tablespoons butter and shortening until the size of oats. Whisk egg and cottage cheese together add to flour mixture and toss with fork. On lightly floured surface knead dough about 6 times to form a ball. Roll dough 1/2 -inch thick and cut into biscuits with floured 2-inch round cutter. Place 1 inch apart on greased and floured baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and bake for 12 minutes or until golden. Serve hot.

* If large curd cottage cheese is being used, break up curds with fork.
