Fresh Apple Cake

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups chopped, peeled apples
1 cup chopped pecans
Hot Buttered Rum Sauce:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup light cream
1 teaspoon rum extract


Sift flour, salt, baking soda, and spices in bowl. Mix in sugar. Make a hole and put eggs and oil in; mix. Add vanilla, apples, and nuts. Blend well. Bake in greased, floured Bundt or tube pan at 300° for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Serve with Hot Buttered Rum Sauce.

Hot Buttered Rum Sauce:
Combine sugar, butter, and cream in saucepan. Mix well. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally until hot. Stir in rum flavoring. Serve over Apple Cake.
