Aiming for fitness, building a healthy base and choosing sensibly are keys to establishing a healthy lifestyle. From time to time, though, thoughts of cancer returning to your body are bound to be on your mind. Risk of cancer recurrence is highest in the first five years after treatment, so staying in tune with your body and following up with your doctor regularly are important. Even with the sound nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices offered here and throughout this book, no single food or practice can be a guarantee against cancer recurrence.
To feel your best, remember to eat a well-balanced, low-fat diet and drink plenty of water. Be sure to get some exercise every day and continue to do the activities you enjoy. Spend time with people you love and care about. Listen to your body and get plenty of rest, especially when you feel tired. Taking care of yourself is the very best thing to do right now--and for the future as well.
