30 caramels, unwrapped
3 tablespoons water
5-6 large apples
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Melt caramels with water in saucepan over low heat. Slice half the apples into pie shell. Pour half caramel sauce over apples. Repeat. Mix flour, spices, and sugar in bowl with butter until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle over pie. Bake at 375° about 45 minutes. I like to use Blushing Golden apples when made in the fall.
