Warm Apple Cake

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2 cups apples, peeled, cored and grated
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, divided

Caramel Sauce:
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl. Mix together egg, apples and 1/4 cup nuts; add to flour mixture. Spread in a greased 8"x8" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick tests clean. Serve warm, topped with Caramel Sauce and remaining nuts.

Caramel Sauce:
Combine sugar, flour and salt in a saucepan over medium heat; gradually stir in water. Cook and stir to a boil; cook for one to 2 minutes, until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla.
