Whole-Wheat Applesauce Bars

Ingredients

Whole-Wheat Applesauce Bars:
1/3 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup cinnamon applesauce
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup golden raisins

Cream Cheese Frosting:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

Whole-Wheat Applesauce Bars:
In a large bowl, beat together butter, brown sugar, eggs and allspice until well blended. In a separate bowl, stir together flours and baking soda. Add to butter mixture, stirring well. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Spread batter in a greased 9"x9" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes; cool. Spread with Cream Cheese Frosting; cut into bars.

Cream Cheese Frosting:
In a large bowl, beat together butter and cream cheese until fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Gradually add powdered sugar to desired thickness.

Tip: Use empty tin cans with bright veggie labels to hold simple bouquets of black-eyed susans, zinnias, daisies and other cut flowers. Line them up along the center of your table...charming!
