Asparagus Melt

Ingredients

2 onion rolls
4 teaspoons butter softened
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 pound asparagus spears cooked and drained
2 tomatoes slices
1/4 teaspoon basil crushed
1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:

Split rolls (2 English muffins or 4 French bread slices may be substituted) spread with butter (or margarine), then with mayonnaise. On each half, place 4 to 5 cooked asparagus spears (1 package [10 ounces] frozen asparagus spears may be substituted for fresh). Top each with 2 tomato slices sprinkle with basil top with cheese. Broil about 6 inches from heat until vegetables are hot and cheese melts, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.

Variation
Broccoli Melt: Broccoli, cooked until crisp-tender, can be used in place of asparagus. Other vegetables, such as spinach or zucchini, can also be used.
