Garlic Cheddar Biscuits

I've made this biscuit recipe for 37 years and they always comes out soft and fluffy.

Ingredients:
| 2 cups | flour |
| 4 teaspoons | baking powder |
| 1/2 teaspoon | salt |
| 1/2 teaspoon | cream of tartar |
| 2 teaspoons | sugar |
| 1/2 cup | cold butter |
| 2/3 cup | milk |
| 1 cup | shredded, sharp cheddar cheese, divided |
| 1/4 teaspoon | California style garlic powder, plus extra for topping |
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450°. Mix first 5 ingredients together well. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut butter into mix, until crumbly. Add 3/4 cup of the cheese and garlic powder and mix in. Add milk, and mix gently until a soft dough forms. Drop by tablespoonfulls onto a greased baking pan. Sprinkle with garlic powder and remaining cheese.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden.
