In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat milk or half-and-half until very hot and steaming (do not boil). Remove from heat cover and keep hot.
Place chocolate chips, egg, sugar, coffee granules or rum extract, vanilla and salt in a blender container. Pour hot milk or half-and-half into blender container. Cover and blend on high speed for about 1 minute or until mixture is smooth and chocolate pieces are melted. Pour into individual pots de creme cups, demitasse cups or small stemmed glasses. Cover with plastic wrap and chill at least 1 1/2 hours or until ready to serve. Mixture will have a soft, pudding-like consistency.
Serve each dessert with a small dollop of whipped cream
