REFRIGERATOR DOOR: Old Fashioned Ham 'n Beans

Serves: 5

Hi Richard,

Here’s how I like to cook beans:

First, presoak them. Cover your beans with cold water by 3-4 inches. Let the pot sit overnight, covered. OR, Cover your beans with cold water by 3-4 inches, bring to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the beans sit for 1 hour.

Next, drain the beans. Add them to your slow-cooker with your ham and any other ingredients you want to add for flavor (broth, onion, garlic, salt, tomatoes, etc.). Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high 4-6 hours or until beans are tender.

Here’s a recipe for a guide. After soaking your beans, just toss the remaining ingredients in the slow-cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until beans are tender.
