Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

4 cups granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
4 cups braeburn or pinova apples, peeled, cored and sliced
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 whole lemon, juiced
1 1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
14 tablespoons butter, cold and sliced into 1 tablespoon pieces

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl combine both types of apples, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour, cinnamon, vanilla and lemon juice. Mix until well combined and apples are evenly coated.

Spread apples evenly into the bottom of a 9"x13" pan.

In a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment combine 1 1/2 cups flour, oatmeal, walnuts, brown sugar, granulated sugar and sea salt.

Add butter on low speed one tablespoon at a time until mixture becomes crumbly and butter is no longer visible.

Cover apples with crumb mixture and bake for 1 hour until lightly brown.
