Caramel Dumplings

Ingredients

Syrup:
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Batter:
1/2 cup sugar, divided
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup milk

Directions:

Syrup:
Caramelize 1/2 cup sugar until golden brown in a heavy pan. Add boiling water. Stir until lumps are dissolved. Add rest of sugar, butter, and vanilla. Pour into a 9x9-inch baking pan.

Batter:
Mix sugar with butter. Then mix in flour, salt, baking powder and milk. Mix well. Drop by tablespoons into hot Syrup. Bake in 425° oven for 20 minutes.
