FAMILY FUN ASIAN NIGHT

Serves: 5

Ingredients

Directions:

You can stir up an interest in ethnic foods by making family meals a fun and exciting experience. Visit an Asian market together to look for new ingredients. Why not purchase a fresh or canned fruit that's new to your family, such as litchis or Asian pears, for dessert?

Egg Rolls
Heat purchased frozen egg rolls as directed on package. Serve with sweet-and-sour sauce and hot mustard.
Sesame Pea Pods
Heat 1 tablespoon sesame oil in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1/2 pound snow (Chinese) pea pods (2 cups) and 1 tablespoon sesame seed. Cook about 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until pea pods are crisp-tender. Stir in 1 medium red or yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips. Cook about
2 minutes, stirring frequently, until bell pepper is crisp-tender.
Kiwifruit with Orange and Chocolate
Mix 1 cup orange or plain yogurt with 2 tablespoons frozen (partially thawed) orange juice concentrate. Spoon 1/4 cup yogurt mixture onto each of 4 dessert plates. Peel 4 large kiwifruit cut into 1/4-inch slices. Arrange kiwifruit on yogurt mixture. Melt 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 2 teaspoons shortening over low heat, stirring constantly. Carefully drizzle chocolate in thin lines over kiwifruit.

Finish with a fruit fondue. Make or buy sweet drizzling or dipping sauces and let everyone decorate their own fresh or canned fruits, like kiwis, tangerines or mandarin slices, mangos, pineapple, Asian pears and litchis.
Have fun reading your fortunes. You can buy fortune cookies in an Asian market and some supermarkets. Or buy thin, rolled cookies, write fortunes on small slips of paper and insert them inside.
Turn the kids into chopstick pros with this easy invention! Wrap a rubber band around two chopsticks, near the tops. Fold a business card into a small square, and place it between the chopsticks with the fold just below the rubber band. The rubber band and card work like a spring to make using the chopsticks easy!
