Luscious Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

3 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate
1 stick butter, softened (no substitute)
1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 1/4 cups cake flour, sifted
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water

Frosting:
2 cups whipping cream
3 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate shavings for garnish

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375°. Grease 2 round cake pans and line with wax paper. Melt chocolate. Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs and melted chocolate. Stir in salt and baking soda. Alternately add flour and buttermilk, vanilla, and then boiling water. Bake for 45 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Check after 30 minutes.

Frosting:
Mix ingredients together and chill for at least 2 hours. Whip cream mixture and frost cool cake. Top with chocolate shavings and store in refrigerator.
