Turtle Pie

Ingredients

12 caramels, unwrapped
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, divided
1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 eggs
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash of salt
1/2 cup pecans

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325°. In a small heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt caramels with 1?3 cup condensed milk. Spread this mixture evenly on bottom of the prepared pie shell.

In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate with butter or margarine. In large mixer bowl, beat eggs with remaining condensed milk, water, vanilla, and salt. Add chocolate mixture and mix well. Pour into prepared pastry shell; top with pecans. Bake 35 minutes or until center is set. Cool. Chill. May be topped with whipped cream. Refrigerate leftovers.
