Mix all ingredients (except 1/2 avocado) until creamy then chop the remaining half avocado in cubes and add. Taste for seasoning. Chill. If made in advance, be sure to store in refrigerator with the avocado seeds placed in the sauce and sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent its darkening. Serve as a dip with toasted tortillas, or for a salad in lettuce cups.
Variation: If chiles are not available, use canned Mexican hot sauce to taste.
