E Z Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

1 onion, chopped
3 pounds ground beef
2 cups instant potato flakes
2 cups milk
4 tablespoons margarine
4 cans peas or corn, drained
salt and pepper to taste
12 slices Cheddar cheese

Directions:

Brown onion in 14-inch Dutch oven. Add beef and brown. Drain excess grease off. Mix potato flakes, milk, and margarine according to package directions. Let stand for 1 minute. Spread peas evenly on top of meat mixture. Spread potatoes on top. Season to taste. Place lid on oven and cook 30 minutes with 12 coals on top and 18 coals on bottom (or in 350° oven). Top with cheese and cook for 10 additional minutes.
