What is The Green PolkaDot Box?

By Alice Osborne

I've been thinking about something and I'd like to talk to you about it. A conundrum exists: We have a health crisis in this country that could in large part be remedied if people ate differently - leaving junky processed and fast foods alone and embracing whole food, fresh food, organic food. But those foods tend to be more expensive than the junky processed and fast foods. So people eat the junky processed and fast foods. And that sort of diet leads to poor health, so we have a health crisis in this country. It's a cycle. And therein lies the conundrum. Who's going to break the cycle?

That question leads me to an answer: The Green PolkaDot Box (GreenPolkadotBox.com) is going to break the cycle - in fact, The Green PolkaDot (GPDB) box already is breaking the cycle. Also disturbed by this conundrum, and as a way to break the cycle, Rod Smith and family created The Green PolkaDot Box.

They sell natural and organic, non-GMO foods at wholesale prices, and deliver them directly to your doorstep. They carry hundreds of your favorite brands, and even ship fresh produce harvested directly from organic farms. They offer a lowest price guarantee on all the items in their inventory, and free shipping on orders over $75. Here's what you can read on their website:

"We share a big vision: we want to make organic foods affordable to everyone, not just the wealthy. If you join us, you will help make that vision a reality. The Green PolkaDot Box is a membership organization intended to grow to become the largest, most influential "buying collective" in America. [MY NOTE: They are not an MLM or direct marketing company.] With enough of us together, we'll be able to accomplish some wonderful things:

1. We'll be able to do away with the "organic deserts" that exist through rural and urban America where people have no access to "clean" organic foods.

2. We'll make clean organic food affordable to everyone.

3. Using a grass roots approach, we'll educate the public about the links between diet and disease, motivating them to seek out healthier, clean, organic alternatives. We can reverse the ravaging effects of chronic disease that are devastating our aging population and protect our children from the debilitating consequences of processed and genetically modified foods.

"You can have a look around the store, and see what you think. If you're pleased with what you find, an annual Club membership only costs $50. Then you can have access to our fantastic prices and service all year long."

I discovered this organization by accident - a neighbor told me about it. I scoured their website, talked to other neighbors who are also buying from them, and then made my first purchase. I don't want to sound like an infomercial, but folks, everything they claim is true. And if you have questions, concerns, or frustrations, their customer service folks are friendly, committed to your satisfaction, AND available!

They deliver in every aspect. I think this is the best thing to come along since the personal computer and I just can't keep the news to myself. Just to illustrate my point, I took this off their website:

SALE! (from the Close-Out Closet) Imagine Vegetable Broth: size: 16 oz. Retail Price: $2.99. Member Price: $2.16 (you save: $0.83), Special Price: $0.99 (added SALE savings: $1.17). You save 66%!

Organic Red Seedless Grapes, 2 lbs for $4.99. That's just $2.50 a pound - much less than what I'm paying in our local natural foods store.

As a help in deciding when to pay more for organic produce, keep this "Dirty Dozen" information handy. This is the produce to spend extra on, as it tends to be heavily sprayed with chemicals:

Apples, blueberries, celery, grapes, kale, lettuce, nectarines, peaches, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, and sweet bell peppers.

The "Clean Fifteen" tend to retain little or no pesticide residue, so you can save money by buying conventional: asparagus, avocados, cabbage, cantaloupe, eggplant, grapefruit, kiwifruit, mangoes, mushrooms, onions, pineapple, sweet corn, sweet peas, sweet potatoes, and watermelon.

OK, now to conclude, here's the last part of what I wanted to talk to you about: You know me - I'm banging the "eat healthy, eat fresh, eat organic, and stay far away from junky processed and fast foods" drum in almost every newsletter (maybe to your annoyance). And to tell you the truth, every time I do bang that drum I feel guilty and anxious, because I know I'm telling you to spend more money on groceries. Guilty and anxious because in this tough economy, maybe that's not the best thing to be telling people.

So this is the other reason I'm enthusiastically, almost hysterically, spreading The Green PolkaDot Box news. Not only are they breaking the above-mentioned discouraging cycle, but now because GPDB is making healthy eating affordable, I no longer have to feel guilty and anxious about banging my "eat healthy..." drum! Check out www.greenpolkadotbox.com and see if this is your answer to affordable healthy eating as well.
