Beef Barley Soup

1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin steaks well trimmed of fat
1 cup thinly sliced carrot
1 cup sliced celery
1 medium onion chopped
1 green bell pepper seeded and chopped
2 (14 1/2-ounce) cans beef broth
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomato
1 cup spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup pearl barley dry
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt (opt)
1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
dash pepper


1. 4 to 12 hours before serving: Cut meat into 1" cubes. Place in slow cooker.
2. Prep veggies and place in slow cooker.
3. Add remaining ingredients to slow cooker.
4. Cover and cook on HIGH 4 to 5 hours or on LOW 10 to 12 hours.
5. Just before serving: Skim off any fat. Serve with crackers and fruit cocktail.
