-BACK TO BASICS: Classic Juice Combinations

Print this Recipe

The infinite number of fruit and vegetable juices that can be created with a juicer never ceases to amaze even veteran juicers. If your taste buds tend to lean toward sweeter foods, you will adore the endless number of fruit juices that can be made with a single fruit or a combination of two or more. Or, if you prefer zesty flavors, you are in for a big surprise when you taste how delicious a vegetable juice can be. If you don't belong to either party and like both sweet and zesty flavors, you will be delighted with the combination of fruit and vegetable juices that will simultaneously satisfy both tastes.

Because juice blends are so personal, I have only included a sampling of fruit and vegetable recipes in this chapter as an introduction to the different combinations that are possible. Many of the popular basic juices are ideal candidates for blending with some of the stronger-flavored vegetable juices, such as broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, or brussels sprouts, to name just a few. Don't hesitate to substitute any of your favorite fruits or vegetables for the ones I have suggested. The key is to experiment with different ingredients until you discover your favorite combinations. With fruit or vegetable in hand and your juicer ready to go, it is now up to you to unleash that creative spirit and put your own signature on the ultimate juice. (Since these drinks are so simple, I have not provided nutritional information for each combination; however, each of these recipes yields 1 serving and the nutritional information for each fruit and vegetable included in these drinks is listed in Juicing Basics: Nutritional Information Table)

APPLE ADVENTURES
You will be delighted with the variety of delicious juices you can create by combining an apple and any of your other favorite fruits. Almost any vegetable can also be mixed with this versatile fruit, with an equally pleasing result. These recipes are just a sampling of the endless number of apple juices you can enjoy; use them as a guide and have fun creating your favorites.

CARROT CAPERS
Carrot juice has a naturally sweet flavor that blends well with most other vegetables, as well as with many fruits. Once you have tried some of these recipes, I am certain you will want to blaze a new path of discovery and create your own exciting carrot juice combos.

CELERY CELEBRATIONS
The unique flavor of celery shines though pleasingly when it is combined with other fruits and vegetables to make a variety of distinctively flavored juices.

CHERRIOTS OF FIRE
It will be a race to the finish line to see how many mouthwatering cherry juices you can create with this plump fruit that is bursting with delicious juice.

FENNEL FANTASY
Once you have tasted any of these fennel juice recipes, I hope you will be inspired to create your own fantasy by combining fennel with some of your favorite fruits and vegetables.

FRIDGE OVER BUBBLED WATER(MELON)
Hum along and you will be inspired to try watermelon and other members of the melon family as the basic ingredient for some fabulous juices.

GRAPEFRUIT GRIPPERS
The strong flavor of grapefruit juice alone makes a refreshing and stimulating drink. When combined with some of your favorite fruits, you will find the flavor slightly tempered but still capable of adding some tang to your special blend.

GRAPE GUNS
Although grape juice is refreshingly delicious on its own, you will be pleased to discover how well it combines with most other fruits. Grapes are definitely a star fruit, and when you experiment with them in creating a variety of blended juices, you will find that they share the spotlight very graciously.

MANGO MIRACLES
Mangoes are very sweet and combine well with most other fruits. Because they are fleshier than other fruits, you should add them slowly, one at a time, to the juicer to prevent it from getting clogged.

THE PEACH BOYS
If you favor sweet juices, you won't have to resort to California dreaming to satisfy your craving. Peaches combined with a variety of fruits yield a pleasingly sweet nectar.

PEAR PRODUCTIONS
The distinct flavor of pear adds a delicate sweetness to a juice when combined with other fruits and some vegetables.

PINEAPPLE PURSUITS
Once you've enjoyed the ultimate sweetness of fresh pineapple juice, you will find it hard to go back to the canned variety. A pineapple that is freshly juiced yields a glass filled with a richly flavored foam and juice that has no equal. And just imagine the variety of deliciously frothy juices you will be able to create when pineapple is combined with other fruits and vegetables.

SPINACH HARLEM
You won't be able to stop singing the praises of spinach after sampling some of these recipes. We all know how delicious spinach is when made into a vegetable side dish, salad, or a sensational dip. But when made into a juice, this green delight reaches new dimensions.
