Onion Soup


Serves: 4

Ingredients

3 onions sliced
4 tablespoons butter
5 cups beef broth
4 thick slices stale bread
1 1/2 cups grated gruyére cheese
pepper

Directions:

Melt butter in saucepan. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 20 minutes. Pour in the broth and boil for 20 minutes. Toast the slices of bread in the oven. Place bread in the bottoms of 4 individual oven-safe bowls. Sprinkle bread with cheese and pour in the hot broth and onions. Lightly sprinkle with pepper. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Serve hot.
