Averi's Sapple Oatmeal

Ingredients

QUART-SIZE JAR INGREDIENTS
3 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup coarsely chopped dried apple
1/2 cup powdered non-dairy coffee creamer
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENT PER SERVING
2/3 cup boiling water

Directions:

1. Combine all of the jar ingredients in a large bowl.

2. Place 1/2 cup of the oatmeal mixture in a cereal bowl, add 2/3 cup boiling water, and stir gently until well mixed.

3. Let the oatmeal stand for 2 minutes to thicken, then stir again.

4. If desired, stir in some butter, cream, or additional brown sugar before serving.

5. Transfer the remaining dry oatmeal mixture to the jar or another airtight container. Store in a cool dry place.

CREATING THE JAR
1. Wash and thoroughly dry a 1-quart wide-mouth canning jar.

2. In a large bowl, combine all of the jar ingredients listed above. PREMIXING IS REQUIRED FOR THIS RECIPE. Transfer the mixture to the canning jar.

3. Secure the lid, and decorate as desired (see The Basics: 06-Creating the Jars DECORATING THE JAR). Attach the instructions for making the oatmeal found in the Gift Jar Tags chapter.
