Tender Egg Biscuits

Ingredients

3 cups flour
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter cold or margarine
3/4 cup milk
1 egg lightly beaten

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450°. Into a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Mix lightly.

With a pastry blender or two knives, cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk and egg. On a lightly floured surface, knead once or twice and roll or pat to 1/2 -inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2 -inch biscuit cutter dipped in flour. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
