Carefully measure water and pour into a 5 qt. Dutch oven. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes with lid on. Check occasionally and add more water as needed. Remove from heat and serve with crackers. This recipe may be doubled or tripled without distorting the original flavor.
VARIATIONS: Add any or all of the following ingredients to enhance the flavors; chicken, beef, carrots, celery, onions, cabbage, garlic, salt, pepper, rice, noodles, flour, tea bags, or coffee grounds.
