Cast & Fire’s Sourdough Loaves (buns)

2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup tepid water (115°F)
1 package dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup sourdough starter (3-oz)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil


In a bowl add; tepid water, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix to dissolve yeast. Proof for 20 minutes in a warm place. Add starter and oil, mix well.

Add 1 ½ c. flour, mix well. Then slowly mix in remaining flour until dough does not stick to the bowl.

Place dough into greased bowl until doubled (about 1 hour). Punch down and form into equal sized balls. Place balls into greased 10” cake pan, let rise until doubled.

Place into a 12”, deep Dutch oven (350°F) on a cake rack off the bottom of oven. Bake 25 to 35 minutes until done. Rotate oven ¼ turn every 5 to 7 minutes. Internal temperature should be 190°F when done. Remove from oven, let cool 30 minutes before serving
