Black Walnut Cake

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 egg whites
1 cup chopped black walnuts


Blend together in large bowl the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, butter, and vanilla and beat with electric mixer 2 minutes. Add egg whites and beat 2 minutes. Fold in black walnuts. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 35–40 minutes.
