Blackberry-Pear Sauce

Yield: 2 1/2 Cups

Ingredients

2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
1 1/3 cups coarsely diced Anjou pears
1 1/3 cups orange juice
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 1/2 tablespoons orange zest
1 teaspoon arrowroot
1 tablespoon cold water

Directions:

1. Place the blackberries, pears, orange juice, maple syrup, and orange zest in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat. Sim - mer 5 to 10 minutes, or until the berries are soft.

2. In a small bowl, dissolve the arrowroot in the cold water. Add the mixture to the simmering blackberry-pear mixture, and stir for a minute or two until the sauce thickens.

3. Remove from the heat and enjoy hot. Refrigerate any leftovers.

For a Change . . .
• Add more maple syrup for a sweeter sauce.
