Tomato Gravy

Ingredients

1/4 cup Crisco
6 level tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1 1/2 cups stewed (canned) tomatoes
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:

In large skillet, melt Crisco over high heat. Add flour and stir constantly until slightly brown. Remove from heat. Let cool. Mix together milk and water. Add to Crisco-flour mixture and stir until well blended. Add tomatoes. Put back on heat and stir until thickened. Add salt.

Variation: To make Old-Fashioned White Gravy, use the same recipe, but omit the tomatoes. Black pepper is also good in this gravy.
