Ingredients

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons anise seeds
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon baking soda
6 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
multicolored candy sprinkles

Directions:

With an electric mixer on medium speed, blend together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Blend in remaining ingredients except sprinkles in order listed; beat well. Chill dough for 4 hours. Remove 1/4 cup of dough and roll into rope about 1/2-inch thick. Repeat with remaining dough. Coat each rope with sprinkles. Cut ropes into 1/2-inch pieces; place cut-side down, about 1/2-inch apart, on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Cool cookies on wire racks. Store in airtight containers.

Snow globes are a quick craft to make with friends. Use silicone glue to secure a plastic or ceramic figure to the inside of a jar lid; let dry. Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water, a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin (to keep the glitter from falling too quickly.) Tighten the lid and let it snow!
