Berry Patch Coffee Cake

Ingredients

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening or margarine
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (not self-rising)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raspberry or blackberry preserves

Directions:

Soften cream cheese at room temperature. Combine with sugar and shortening, mixing until well blended. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Blend in vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with the milk. Blend thoroughly. Stir in pecans.

Pour into a greased and floured 9x13-inch pan. Dot with preserves and cut through batter several times for a marbled effect. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes until done.
