Holiday Treasure Loaf

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups pitted dates, whole
1 (8-ounce) jar maraschino cherry, whole
1 pound walnuts meats, whole
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl. Add dates, cherries, and nuts to flour and coat well. Beat eggs well and add vanilla and pour into first mixture. Mix thoroughly with hands. Line greased pan (5 1/2x9 1/2x2 3/4-inch) with heavy brown paper and grease paper well. Bake at 325° for 1 3/4–2 hours, or until “pick” clean. Remove from pan and wrap in a brandy-moistened cloth, then foil. Let stand a day or two. Fruit juice may be used instead of brandy.
