Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

1/2 cup butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 1/2 cups sugar confectioners', unsifted
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk or half-and-half


In small bowl of electric mixer, cream butter and salt at low speed. Gradually beat in 2 cups confectioners' sugar until well blended. Mix in corn syrup, chocolate, and vanilla. Add remaining confectioners' sugar alternately with milk or half-and-half, beating well after each addition, until desired consistency is reached.
