Sticky Bread Woes

Hi there! I enjoyed watching the video of you making artisan bread and decided I had to give it a try. I have now made 2 loaves but I have a problem with the dough sticking to the towel. The 2nd time I added just a little more flour than the recipe called for and used more than 1/4 cup of flour on the towel (probably closer to a cup) but it still stuck terribly.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I will be making this bread a lot once I master the technique because my husband loved it. Thank you so much for your help.

Sincerely,

Gloria Simkins

P.S. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but the flour I used is Artisan Bread Flour from Lehi Roller Mills.

Gloria,

I can't think of what the problem might be, unless you are handling the bread too much. Flour the tea towel well. Make sure you don't use terry cloth towels. Flour your hands and touch the dough quickly to form the loaf, it's good if the loaf is coated with flour on the outside.

If that isn't working then try changing the flour. Maybe the protein content is higher is some flours than others. I am more inclined to think it is one of the above problems. Lehi Roller Mills should be great flour! The recipe just calls for all-purpose flour.

Wish I was there to help you, but I am sure you will master this problem. Let me know how it goes for you.

Best Wishes,

Jeanne
