Ingredients

2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 drop food coloring (optional)
1/2 cup chopped candied fruit
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions:

Mix together sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves let mixture boil 5 to 7 minutes. Reduce heat and cook without stirring to hard boil stage, 260°F. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gradually pour hot syrup over egg whites, very thin stream, beating at high speed. Add vanilla, food coloring (optional), candied fruit, and nuts beat until candy holds its shape. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. If too stiff add a few drops hot water. Store in tightly covered container.
