Testing Breads For Doneness

Ingredients

Directions:

Always check breads at the minimum baking time to see if they look done. Yeast loaves should be well rounded and nicely browned on top. Remove one loaf from the oven and carefully slip it from its pan. Tap the bottom and sides. If it sounds hollow, it is done. Quick loaves require testing with a wooden pick or metal cake tester. Insert the tester near the center, but not in the crack (which may have surface moisture). If the tester comes out clean and dry, the loaf is done. The surface moisture will dry as the bread cools.
