Rich Biscuits

Ingredients

2 cups flour sifted
1 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg beaten
2/3 cup milk or less

Directions:

Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and most of milk. Stir as little as possible, add all of milk if necessary to make dough hold together. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1/2 minute. Pat to 1/2 inch thick, cut and bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 450° oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
